ROBERT M. BLY is owner and principal of The Bly Law Firm, P.C., which concentrates in the areas of estate, business, and asset protection planning at both the domestic and international levels. His practice serves a clientele throughout Tennessee and the Southeast. Mr. Bly is a frequent lecturer for National Business Institute and other groups on estate and asset protection planning matters. He also is a frequent writer on asset protection and estate planning issues and was a contributing author to the book Generations: Planning Your Legacy, published in 1999 by the Esperti Peterson Institute. Mr. Bly has served on the adjunct faculty at Valparaiso University and Indiana University, Kokomo Campus. He earned his B.S. degree from Ball State University and his J.D. degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law. Mr. Bly is a founding member and first chairman of the Mid South Estate Planning Forum, and a member of The Offshore Institute.
AMELIA G. CROTWELL launched her solo practice, Elder Law of East Tennessee, in 2010. She devotes all her expertise to helping elders and their families, and persons with disabilities plan for their legal, financial and health care needs. Her legal practice areas include elder law, estate planning, wills and trusts, conservatorship proceedings, special needs trusts, Medicaid planning and veterans benefits planning, Social Security disability, and SSI planning. Ms. Crotwell is a certified elder law attorney (CELA) through the National Elder Law Foundation. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Life Care Planning Law Firms Association and the Tennessee and Knoxville bar associations. Ms. Crotwell also is accredited to practice before the Veterans Administration and the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims, and she has completed extensive training required by the Tennessee Supreme Court to become a family mediator. She participates in a number of volunteer programs in the community. Ms. Crotwell also offers pro bono legal services through Legal Aid of East Tennessee, Inc., and through the Tennessee Family Justice Center. Additionally, she takes a very active role in the community by speaking at seminars and to community groups about life care planning and elder law issues. Ms. Crotwell earned her B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Tennessee and her J.D. degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Tennessee College of Law.
DUSTIN S. CROUSE joined the firm of Monica Franklin & Associates, LLC in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 2017. His practice consists of helping individuals in the areas of elder law, wills, trusts, conservatorships, and estate administration. Mr. Crouse received his B.A. degree from Emory & Henry College and his J.D. degree from Campbell University. He currently serves as the chair of the KBA Barristers Professional Outreach Committee, a member of the Executive Leadership Team with the March of Dimes - Knoxville, the Advisory Board of Girls, Inc. of Knoxville, and as assistant coach with the Christian Academy of Knoxville’s boys soccer team. He is admitted to practice in Tennessee and the United States District Court - Eastern District of Tennessee.
J. SCOTT GRISWOLD an attorney with Hodges, Doughty & Carson, PLLC, concentrates his practice in the areas of business and commercial law; business organizations; estate planning; litigation and appeals, and probate and estate administration. On the planning and transaction side, Mr. Griswold has crafted estate plans and advised business owners and nonprofit entities on general corporate matters, including formation, dissolution, property taxes, and tax exemptions. Mr. Griswold is admitted to the Tennessee Bar Association and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. He received his B.S. degree from Middle Tennessee State University and his J.D. degree from the University of Tennessee College of Law.
SARAH E.C. MALIA is an elder law attorney and social scientist with an emphasis in family dynamics in Knoxville, Tennessee. She has served as a guardian ad litem (GAL) for chancery and juvenile courts. Ms. Malia has also served as a conservator, or in a similar fiduciary capacity, in a number of cases for adults with one or more disabilities who presently are not able to manage their own business affairs and/or personal or healthcare decisions. She earned her B.S. degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Tennessee's Honors Program; and her M.S. degree and J.D. degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
JULIA K. PRICE is an attorney with Elder Law of East Tennessee, who works closely with clients and families who are facing imminent care transitions and may be worried about how to find and pay for needed care. Because of her background in Medicaid and VA benefits, Ms. Price is especially well equipped to assess Elder Law of East Tennessee clients' financial and care situation and determine how to obtain eligibility for benefits that will pay for care in a facility or at home. She stays on top of changes in the law, advocates for clients with benefits agencies, ensures that the necessary legal documents are in place to prepare for current and future decision-making, and finds ways to maximize assets so that the elder gets the best possible care in the most suitable location. Ms. Price received her bachelor’s degree, in political science and history, from Agnes Scott College and her Juris Doctorate degree from Tulane University Law School. Ms. Price is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association; Knoxville Bar Association; East Tennessee Lawyers’ Association for Women; National Association of Elder Law Attorneys; NAELA Journal Editorial Board; Tennessee Lawyers’ Association for Women, corresponding secretary and is VA accredited.
R. LANCE PRUITT provides consultation and solutions to clients in the areas of estate planning, asset protection and business succession planning. Prior to his current employment, Mr. Pruitt practiced law for several years, concentrating his practice in the areas of estate and tax planning, tax litigation, estate administration and corporate law. He also is an adjunct professor at Tusculum College. Mr. Pruitt earned his B.S. degree from The University of Tennessee at Knoxville, his J.D. degree from Southern Illinois University School of Law and his LL.M. degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
BAILEY SCHIERMEYER is an attorney with Elder Law of East Tennessee, where she assists elders, individuals with disabilities, and their families with planning for the legal and financial challenges of aging and long-term care situations. Ms. Schiermeyer advises clients about the best strategies for dealing with current crises and planning to avoid crisis situations in the future. Her analytical skills and patience serve her well as she helps clients navigate unique challenges and achieve their goals. In addition to assisting clients with issues of aging and disability, she also handles estate administration or probate cases. Ms. Schiermeyer received her B.S degree from Tennessee Technological University and her J.D degree from Regent University School of Law.
