How many CLE credits do you need in Virginia?
In Virginia, active status attorneys must complete 12.00 CLE credits (including 2.00 ethics/professionalism) every year to maintain good standing with the Virginia State Bar.
When is the Virginia CLE reporting deadline?
Virginia attorneys must complete all 12.00 required CLE credits by October 31 each year and report their credits to the Virginia MCLE Board by December 15 at 4:45 p.m. EST.
How long is the Virginia CLE reporting period, and when does it end?
The reporting period is 1 year and runs from November 1 through October 31 for all attorneys.
How do I report my Virginia CLE credits?
NBI will send you a Certificate of Attendance (Form 2) and a verified certificate of completion. Follow the directions on Form 2 to certify your attendance online with the Virginia State Bar website and to view your current MCLE Report. If you prefer, you can mail your completed Form 2 to the Virginia State Bar.
Following the end of each compliance period review your MCLE End of Year Report provided by the MCLE Board.

Yes. CLE credits completed after admission to the Virginia State Bar can be applied to your first reporting period.
When does my first reporting period for Virginia end?
Your first reporting period begins on November 1 after admission to the Virginia State Bar and ends on October 31 the following year.
Are there any special credit requirements for new attorneys in Virginia?
Yes. All newly admitted Virginia attorneys must take the Harry L. Carrico Professionalism Course within 24 months of admission to the Virginia State Bar.* This requirement is separate from your Virginia MCLE requirement but will earn CLE credits for professionalism.
