Required Alaska CLE Credits

Effective 01/01/2025, active members of the Alaska Bar Association must complete 12 credit hours per year of approved MCLE, including 3 mandatory hours of ethics. Voluntary credit hours earned in 2024 can be carried over to meet the new 2025 requirements.

CLEs outside of Alaska: CLE programs which take place outside of Alaska or are webcast from outside of Alaska are not required to be accredited by the Alaska Bar Association. Alaska Bar members may claim credit for attendance at CLE programs offered in or from other jurisdictions if the program has been accredited by another MCLE jurisdiction. CLE providers may not advertise programs as accredited by Alaska unless the program has been accredited by Alaska regardless of where the program is held.

In Alaska, active status attorneys must complete 3.00 CLE credits every year in ethics to maintain good standing with the Alaska Bar Association. Attorneys are encouraged to complete an additional 9.00 VCLE credits. If you are inactive for part of the year but are active as of December 31, you must report the required 3.00 CLE credits for that year.

What are the Alaska CLE requirements for newly admitted attorneys?

Newly admitted attorneys in Alaska are exempt from CLE reporting requirements for the duration of the year in which they are admitted to the Alaska Bar Association. For example, those admitted in 2023 would have a reporting cycle from January 1 to December 31, 2024.
