Maryland CLE Requirements

Required Maryland CLE Credits

Maryland does not currently require attorneys to complete continuing legal education credits. However, CLE is still an important part of practicing law in Maryland and the Maryland Rules of Professional Conduct (Rule 19-301.1) encourage attorneys to complete continuing education on a regular basis.

NBI has many different course formats for Maryland attorneys who want to stay up to date with the latest legal issues. Choose from live in-person seminars, live webinars, and OnDemand courses.

General Maryland Continuing Legal Education Credit Requirements

Does Maryland have a mandatory CLE requirement for attorneys?

No. Maryland does not have a mandatory CLE requirement, and there is no CLE reporting period for Maryland attorneys (unlike nearby states such as New York, New Jersey, West Virginia, or Pennsylvania).

However, the Maryland Rules of Professional Conduct (Rule 19-301.1) encourage attorneys to maintain competence by staying current on changes in the law through ongoing legal education. NBI’s CLE programs are a convenient way to do this, and our courses are taught by experienced, well-qualified attorneys.

Why should Maryland attorneys take CLE courses if they are not required?

Even without a formal CLE requirement, staying up to date with new legal developments is essential for practicing law effectively. CLE courses help attorneys maintain competency, build skills in new practice areas, and stay ahead of emerging trends in the legal profession.

What CLE formats are available for Maryland attorneys?
