Speaker bio
W. Erik Weber
is a partner at Mefford, Weber and Blythe PC, where he practices in the areas of personal injury law, civil trial litigation, debtor/creditor law, bankruptcy, family law, estate and financial planning, and real estate. He is licensed to practice in the state of Indiana, U.S. District Court for both the Northern and Southern districts of Indiana, Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and U.S. Supreme Court. Currently Mr. Weber serves as legal counsel for the Municipal City of Auburn, Auburn Municipal Utilities, Auburn Plan Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals, DeKalb County Central United School District, Smith-Green Schools, DeKalb County Change Academy, and various other local entities. He is a member of the DeKalb County Bar, Indiana State Bar Association, American Association for Justice, and Council of School Attorneys and Municipal Attorneys. Mr. Weber earned his B.S. degree, cum laude, from St. Joseph's College of Rensselaer Indiana and his J.D. degree from John Marshall Law School in Chicago.

Cari L. Sheehan
is an assistant general counsel with Taft Stettinius & Hollister, LLP with over 15 years of legal experience in civil litigation, conflicts of interest, and professional responsibility. In this role, she advises firm attorneys with respect to ethics compliance, risk prevention, and conflicts of interest. In addition, Ms. Sheehan assists in the review and negotiation of outside counsel guidelines, conflict waivers and engagement letters, and other items with ethical implications. She assists in providing ethical training and education within the firm to its attorneys and staff. Ms. Sheehan is an adjunct professor at the IU Robert H. McKinney School where she teaches professional responsibility. She is also a former assistant clinical professor of business law and ethics at the Kelley School of Business. Ms. Sheehan is passionate about promoting ethical awareness, integrity, and professionalism in the legal and business fields, and contributing to the advancement of knowledge and practice in these domains. She is a frequent presenter and author on ethics and professionalism in the legal industry. Ms. Sheehan is a recurring author with the Res Gestae, the Indiana State Bar Association's Member Journal, regarding the ethics curbstone; and has been quoted in publications for her knowledge on ethical topics. She is also an avid speaker, having given over 200 seminars on ethics and professionalism for various local and national platforms. Ms. Sheehan's primary area of research is regarding the ethics of AI and how it affects the legal and business community.

Victoria Ikerd-Schreiter
is the founder of the Law Office of Victoria Vasquez Ikerd-Schreiter. She mostly focuses her practice in representing individuals with disabilities, and the education and training of parents of their rights. Ms. Ikerd-Schreiter provides lectures, seminars, and trainings fluently in both English and Spanish for parents throughout Arizona and California, both through support groups and through her law firm. Through her firm, she also continues to advocate on a policy level, as well as to maintain the funding and services that serve the bigger picture of adults and children with special needs. Ms. Ikerd-Schreiter has also spoken, and continues to speak at many conferences and events as a keynote and break out session speaker in both English and Spanish on the topics of disability, services, legal strategies, policy and advocacy. She earned her undergraduate degree, summa cum laude, from San Diego State University and her J.D. degree from California Western School of Law.

Thomas A. Mayes
is an attorney for the Iowa Department of Education. Before joining the Iowa Department of Education, he was staff attorney for the Iowa Court of Appeals, staff attorney in Iowa Legal Aid's Waterloo office, and law clerk to Justice James H. Carter of the Supreme Court of Iowa. Mr. Mayes is licensed to practice in Iowa and New York. He is a member and former president of the National Council of State Education Attorneys. Mr. Mayes earned his bachelor's degree from Baylor University; his J.D. degree, with highest distinction, from The University of Iowa College of Law; and his master's degree in educational leadership from Lehigh University.

John E. McCook
is chief financial officer and president of McCook & Associates, an education consulting firm located in Knoxville, Tennessee. He serves as a consultant for school systems across the nation on special education, Section 504, legal issues in school administration, and implementing the response to intervention process. Dr. McCook's presentations in national meetings, including the National School Board Association, International Association of Pupil Personnel, and MEDS/PDN, and have won him recognition in several publications regarding school legal issues and special education. He recently retired as the director of pupil personnel for the Knox County School District in Knoxville, Tennessee. During his 38 years, Dr. McCook also served as the district's Section 504 compliance officer. He supervised special education personnel in addition to psychologists, social workers, speech and language therapists, supervisory personnel, and program specialists. Dr. McCook was instrumental in developing a psycho-educational center and satellite classrooms for emotionally disturbed students in Knoxville. He was previously an adjunct faculty at the University of Tennessee, teaching graduate classes in issues and trends in education, educational statistics, and school law. Dr. McCook has written several publications regarding legal issues in special education and Section 504. He earned his B.S. degree from Oglethorpe University, and his M.S. and Ed.D. degrees from the University of Tennessee.
