is one of the original founding partners with his brother when the firm opened in 1992. He started his legal career in Boston, Massachusetts in 1990, working for a Boston area criminal defense firm. After relocating to Florida in the year 2000, Mr. Lakin worked at the law firm of Barnes Walker, in Bradenton, Florida, where he became a partner in 2003. He was selected as a Florida Super Lawyer, for each year from 2007 to 2010. Additionally, Mr. Lakin was a board-certified civil trial lawyer, as certified by The Florida Bar, from 2006-2016. At that time, less than two percent of the attorneys comprising The Florida Bar held this certification. In 2012, he was elected Circuit Court Judge in the State of Florida’s Twelfth Judicial Circuit Court for Sarasota, Manatee and Desoto counties. By the time he was elected judge, Mr. Lakin had been lead counsel in over 100 civil and criminal jury trials. For two years, he served in the criminal felony division, handling over 800 felony cases, including several high profile murder trials. Mr. Lakin later served in the circuit civil division, handling complex civil litigation. As a circuit judge, he presided over 40 trials during his judicial career, concluding his public service on the bench in 2016. Currently Mr. Lakin handles first party property insurance litigation, civil litigation, and criminal defense cases. He has appeared as a guest speaker on Court TV, CNN Headline News, C SPAN and MSNBC as a legal analyst for criminal trials.
