Daniel Butler

is a Shareholder with Segal McCambridge Singer & Mahoney. He was born in New York City and grew up on Long Island, New York, before attending the University of Michigan and Syracuse University College of Law (cum laude). After graduating from Syracuse Law and working for the asset forfeiture department of the Northern District of New York for over a year, Mr. Butler moved back to New York City in 2016 and began working as a litigation attorney. He practiced for six years at a busy litigation firm in Manhattan and focused his practice on the defense of professionals and in construction litigation, before moving to Southern California with his wife. Mr. Butler remains licensed in both New York and California. He also has experience in insurance coverage litigation. As a practicing litigator in California since 2022, Mr. Butler's practice has remained focused on the defense of financial professionals and attorneys as well as construction litigation. He has experience in all facets of litigation by virtue of exclusively litigating complex professional responsibility and construction matters. Mr. Butler has also successfully resolved dozens of cases for private clients and insurance carriers through mediation and alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. He has been selected as a Super Lawyers Rising Star in New York City for the years of 2020 and 2021, and in Southern California for the years of 2023, 2024, and 2025. This is an award given to only 2.5% of practicing attorneys in the region. Mr. Butler has also been published in USI Affinity's newsletter (2017) and in the Professional Liability Defense Federation's quarterly publication (Vol 1. 2021), with both publications concerning issues pertaining to the defense of professionals.

is a founding partner of Silva, Kiernan & Associates, PLLC, where he concentrates the majority of his practice on criminal defense, DWI and bankruptcy matters. Prior to joining Matthew Silva in private practice, Mr. Kiernan had been a successful prosecutor in North Carolina's Fourth Prosecutorial District, which is comprised of Onslow, Jones, Sampson and Duplin counties. He earned his B.S. degree, magna cum laude, from North Carolina State University (NCSU) and his J.D. degree from Indiana University School of Law. While he completed his studies at NCSU, Mr. Kiernan worked as a Teaching Assistant in Computer Ethics and continued to work full-time as a software developer at CISYS LifeSciences, Inc., where he spent most of his time enhancing software specifically designed for the monitoring of the processes and outcomes of Diabetes care. While at Indiana University, Mr. Kiernan focused his studies on the legal aspects of technology and science, criminal law and trial advocacy. He participated in Moot Court competitions at IU and at Columbia University. Mr. Kiernan was also a member of the Trial Team, where part of his responsibilities were to assist in educating and mentoring newer students in the area of trial advocacy. He excelled in legal research and writing and ultimately earned the coveted "A*" (highest grade in class) in his Pre Trial Litigation course, which focused on thorough preparation, knowledge of the law and procedure, and negotiations with adverse parties. Mr. Kiernan has served as the State Bar Councilor for the Fifth District since 2019; is a local member of the attorney network for the United States Concealed Carry Association (U.S.C.C.A.); has twice been a guest lecturer at Campbell University's Norman A. Wiggins School of Law; has served as the President of the Sampson County Bar for 2014 and 2015; and was invited to be a presiding judge at the American Mock Trial Association's Regional Tournament at Furman University in 2015.

What happens if my course is cancelled?
In the unlikely event that NBI cancels or reschedules an upcoming program, each registered attendee will be contacted via email by a representative of NBI. Outreach to attendees begins as soon as NBI is made aware that a program will not move forward at its originally scheduled date and time.

Yes, the more people you bring from your organization, the more you save. After the first registration, each additional attendee receives a special discount off of their total tuition.
