Overview
Help Clients Build Savings Without Putting Their Benefits at Risk
Your client's family wants to set money aside for a loved one with a disability, but every dollar feels like a threat to the benefits that person depends on. ABLE accounts solve that problem elegantly - and eligibility has expanded to reach a far larger group of people than ever before, which means these accounts are showing up in your practice whether or not you went looking for them. The devil is in the details, however. A housing distribution taken in the wrong month, a balance that drifts past the SSI threshold, a second account opened by a well-meaning relative, or a special needs trust that was never coordinated with the ABLE account can quietly cost your client benefits, trigger tax penalties, or expose savings to a state claim at death.
This focused 90-minute program gives you a working command of Section 529A from eligibility through wind-down, with the practical judgment calls spelled out at each step. You will leave able to identify which clients qualify, open and fund accounts correctly, document distributions that will hold up, and position the ABLE account alongside first-party and third-party trusts with confidence. Register today!
- Get current on expanded ABLE eligibility and identify which of your clients now qualify.
- Open and fund accounts correctly, from signature authority to contribution limits.
- Know exactly which expenses qualify - and which distributions create tax problems.
- Coordinate ABLE accounts with SSI, Medicaid, and special needs trusts.
- Sidestep the payback, recertification, and wind-down traps that catch planners.
