Speaker bio
Joseph Guzzardo
is an attorney with the law firm of Johnson & Webbert LLP. He specializes in labor and employment, civil rights, and complex civil cases. During his eighteen-year litigation career, Mr. Guzzardo has successfully tried numerous cases in state and federal court in matters ranging from employment retaliation, unreasonable use of force, false arrest, cruel and unusual punishment, and malicious prosecution. Before joining us, he worked in Philadelphia for a large commercial defense firm before following his passion by prosecuting civil rights claims against powerful entities and their officials. Mr. Guzzardo has won several federal appeals court decisions for plaintiffs in the areas of absolute and qualified immunity. He earned his undergraduate degree from Kutztown State University and his J.D. degree from Temple University Beasley School of Law. Mr. Guzzardo is licensed to practice in Maine, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

James J. Mahon
is an attorney with Becker. He concentrates his practice on criminal and civil tax controversies, white collar criminal matters, and civil litigation. Mr. Mahon represents clients facing criminal charges in state and federal courts, individuals under government investigation, and taxpayers before the Internal Revenue Service and the New York State Department of Taxation. His commercial litigation practice includes banking, ERISA benefits and contributions, and securities matters. Mr. Mahon has successfully represented clients subject to claims involving professional malpractice, labor and employment disputes, tax shelters, property allocation, matrimonial disputes, probate disputes, and disputes arising out of the misappropriation of databases and trade secrets. He serves as a mediator to the commercial part of the New York State Supreme Court, New York County. Mr. Mahon's practice also includes federal and state taxpayer representation in criminal and civil cases, business fraud, and other white-collar defense work. He has represented clients before various state and federal agencies, including the Internal Revenue Service, New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, SEC, NASD, EEOC and NLRB. Mr. Mahon earned his B.A. degree from College of the Holy Cross and his J.D. degree from Fordham University School of Law. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York, New York State Courts, United States Court of Appeals for the Second and Third circuits, United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern districts of New York, United States District Court for the District of Vermont, United States Tax Court and United States Court of Claims.

Cynthia E. Everson
is an attorney at Everson Law Firm PLLC, where she provides private representation for federal and state criminal and civil matters, with an emphasis on indigent representation. Ms. Everson has defended people accused of gun crimes in both state and federal court, and has litigated issues related to the right to possess and carry firearms, as well as property issues related to retrieving firearms that were seized by law enforcement. She is an adjunct writing instructor at Rowan Cabarrus Community College in Concord, North Carolina and has been teaching there for two years. Ms. Everson earned her B.A. degree from Gardner Webb University; her M.A. degree from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte; and her J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from the Charlotte School of Law.

E. Andrew Treese
is a partner at Freeman Mathis & Gary, LLP in the complex litigation and government liability sections, and where he primarily defends bodily injury claims, with an emphasis on trucking and transportation, premises liability, education claims, and malicious prosecution and false arrest. Mr. Treese also defends civil rights litigation against governmental entities, educational institutions and their employees. He earned his B.A. degree from Emory University and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from Georgia State University.

Samantha A. Lesser
is an attorney in Becker's Litigation, Tax Controversy and Corporate practices. Her experience includes jury trials, arbitration, tax procedure issues, assisting delinquent taxpayers, and motion practice. Ms. Lesser also has experience with corporate transactions such as reverse mergers, private placements, IPOs, Regulation D matters, SPAC, and VIE Structures. Additionally, she has investigated FINRA matters dealing with the Statutory Disqualification of Broker Dealers. Ms. Lesser earned her J.D. degree and her LL.M. degree in tax from New York Law School, and her B.S. degree from Syracuse University. She is admitted to practice in the New Jersey and New York, United States District Court for the Southern and Eastern districts, and United States Tax Court.
