Elysia Prendergast-Jones
is managing attorney with Legal Aid of North Carolina. She is a board-certified specialist in family law. She supervises other in-house attorneys on family and domestic violence matters, advising on legal precedents, legal instruments, and the correct application of laws and statutes in district, superior and appellate courts. Ms. Prendergast-Jones also speaks at numerous CLE seminars and trainings. She earned her B.A. degree from Coker College, her M.A. and M.B.A. degrees from Webster University and her J.D. degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law.

Gene Brentley Tanner
is a partner with Parker Bryan Britt Tanner & Jenkins, PLLC. He was certified by the North Carolina State Bar as a board-certified specialist in the area of family law in 2012. Mr. Tanner focuses his practice on family law matters including separation, divorce, child custody, child support, alimony, military pension division orders, court orders acceptable for processing, issues related to survivor benefit plans, property distribution, high-asset divorces, divorces involving complex business valuations, professional practice divorces, domestic violence, premarital agreements, separation and property settlement agreements, and qualified domestic relations orders. He is known both statewide and nationally as an expert in family law matters related to military divorce issues, military pension division orders, federal pension divisions, court orders acceptable for processing, and former spouse survivor benefit rights. Mr. Tanner earned his B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his J.D. degree from the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University. He is a member of the Wake County Bar Association, Tenth Judicial District Bar's Family Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association and Family Law Section of the American Bar Association.

is the founder and principal of The Walls Law Group in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he focuses his practice in the areas of estate and business planning, asset protection, business organization and succession, probate and trust/estate administration. He is a member of WealthCounsel and the North Carolina Bar Association. Mr. Walls also serves as an adjunct professor at the School of Law, Campbell University. He earned his B.A. degree from North Carolina State University and his J.D. degree from School of Law, Campbell University.

Catherine R. Bailey
is with Fresh Start Family Law, where she represents clients in family law matters including divorce, domestic violence, child custody, child support, alimony, equitable distribution, separation agreements, surrogacy, and mediation. Ms. Bailey's practice has a special emphasis in all aspects of military divorce, including military pension division. She is a North Carolina board-certified family law specialist, as well as a North Carolina certified family financial mediator who performs mediations in family law cases. Ms. Bailey earned her B.A. degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and her J.D. degree, cum laude, from Campbell University Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law.

Jason F. Hicks
is an assistant county attorney with Guilford County, North Carolina. He is licensed in both Tennessee and North Carolina. Over the course of his career, Mr. Hicks has practiced family/divorce law, probate and litigation, as well as elder law, juvenile law, and local government law. He is a member of the District 24 (North Carolina), Putnam County (Tennessee), Tennessee, North Carolina, and American bar associations. Mr. Hicks is currently the president of the North Carolina DSS Attorney's Association. He is past-president of the Putnam County Bar Association and the Upper Cumberland Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Hicks is also the past vice president of the Tennessee Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division. He is a frequent speaker at legal education seminars, having presented over forty CLE presentations. Mr. Hicks is a barrister member of the Guilford Chapter, American Inn of Courts. He earned his B.A. degree from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville and his J.D. degree from Faulkner University, Thomas Goode Jones School of Law.

Janet L. Gemmell
is the founder and managing member of Cape Fear Family Law, with offices in in Wilmington and Jacksonville, North Carolina. She is a board-certified family law specialist. Ms. Gemmell focuses her practice on family law issues, including child custody issues, relocation matters, equitable distribution (or in other words division) of property, and alimony and spousal support. She has been a contributing writer and public speaker on divorce law topics for local publications and a national magazine, and is an active presenter of continuing legal education seminars. Ms. Gemmell also manages her firm's Vlog on YouTube. She is a member of the North Carolina State Bar Family Law Section, as well as the American Bar Association and The Florida Bar. Ms. Gemmell earned her B.A. degree, cum laude, from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington; and her J.D. degree from the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law at Campbell University.
