Daniel B Garrie is the co-founder of Law & Forensics LLC, where he leads the computer forensics and e-discovery practice teams. He has been a dominant voice in e-discovery for more than 20 years. Mr. Garrie is an arbitrator, forensic neutral, and e-discovery special master at JAMS. Since co-founding Law & Forensics, LLC in 2008, he has built it into one of the leading e-discovery engineering firms in the industry. In addition to his law degree, Mr. Garrie holds bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science, allowing him to speak as comfortably with engineers and developers as he does with lawyers and judges. He combines his technical and legal expertise to resolve e-discovery disputes, consult on e-discovery matters, and serve as an expert witness on e-discovery issues. Mr. Garrie is also the co-inventor of Forensic Scan, a patented method of scanning forensic images of a computer system using multiple malicious code detection engines simultaneously from a master control point, (US 20140181975 A1), Small v. University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, 2014 WL 4079507 (D. Nev. 2014); United Central Bank v. Kanan Fashions, N. D. Ill., Case No. 10-CV-331. (2011); Tesoro Refining and Marketing Company v. Enmex Corp., et al., 2015 WL 1529247 (W.D. Tex. 2015); C.D.S. Inc. v. Zelter and Amazon Web Services, Inc., (S.D.N.Y. 2016) and Jawbone, Inc. v. Fitbit Inc. et al (Super. Cal., S.F. County 2018). His expert reports and findings have been instrumental in facilitating positive, cost and time-saving outcomes for his clients in multi-billion dollar disputes. Mr. Garrie is the co-author of six books including Understanding Software, the Internet, Mobile Computing, and The Cloud: A Guide for Judges, and his scholarship is cited by Black's Law Dictionary (10th Ed.) in defining the terms "software," "internet," and "algorithm." He has been recognized by several U.S. Supreme Court Justices for his legal scholarship and cited in more than 500+ articles and opinions. Separately, Mr. Garrie enjoys teaching in both an academic and courtroom setting. He is an adjunct professor of law at Rutgers Law School. Mr. Garrie has given hundreds of seminars to thousands of students, lawyers, judges, and CISOs across the globe. In addition to his classroom experience at Rutgers, he has also lectured at Harvard Law School, UCLA, Columbia University, Cardozo Law School, and Brandeis University on numerous topics, including e-discovery.
