Joan C McKenna is a partner with O'Hagan Meyer where her practice includes the representation of employers in a variety of employment lawsuits, including suits under Title VII, ADEA, ADA and state fair employment laws. She also represents employers in administrative proceedings and advises employers regarding compliance with various employment-related state and federal laws, including the FLSA, COBRA, the FMLA and state wage payment laws. Ms. McKenna speaks regularly to employers on various topics in employment law and has served as a contributing editor to the Virginia Employment Law Letter. She also defends companies in tort actions including premises liability, personal injury and defective products cases, and against claims of intentional torts such as defamation and assault and battery. Ms. McKenna has represented national restaurant chains, national bakeries, and machinery manufacturers in successfully defending such claims. In addition, she regularly represents professionals against professional liability claims. Ms. McKenna earned her B.A. degree from Brown University and her J.D. degree from the University of Virginia School of Law. She is a member of the Virginia State Bar, Labor and Employment Section; Virginia Women Attorneys Association (president, Board of Directors, 2016-2017); Society for Human Resource Management; and the Richmond Bar Association. Ms. McKenna is admitted to practice in Virginia, U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western districts of Virginia and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
