Lisa R Barata is an accomplished attorney with more than 25 years of experience working in various roles in the state of New Jersey's Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control. As counsel in the Real Estate Group, she utilizes this firsthand knowledge to assist clients in navigating the regulatory environment surrounding the manufacture, wholesale distribution and retail sale of alcoholic beverages. Most recently, Ms. Barata served as a deputy attorney general in the Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control in the Counsel to the Director's Office. There, she was responsible for analyzing legal and regulatory issues; drafting legal opinions, special rulings and final agency decisions; providing legal advice interpreting Title 33; and handling appeals of municipal disciplinary actions against licensees. In addition, Ms. Barata also served as the legislative liaison to the Attorney General's Office, where she reviewed pending legislation for the Division. Previously, she served as a deputy attorney general in the Division's Enforcement Bureau, where she prosecuted violations of the law by every tier of the alcoholic beverage industry, including retail and wholesale licensees. Ms. Barata has also presented seminars at regional and statewide conferences, and frequently lectures municipal officials, municipal clerks and licensees throughout the state of New Jersey. She earned her B.A. degree, with honors, from University of Delaware and her J.D. degree from Widener University Delaware Law School.
