Walter E Congdon is a deputy county attorney for civil matters for Mineral County, Montana. His legal career includes special deputy county attorney from Lincoln to Prairie County and numerous places in-between. Across the state, Mr. Congdon is known as the guy to call, about any help with federal agencies regarding preserving grazing, timber, agricultural opportunities as well as water quality and availability, recreation, wildlife and multiple use. He authored the state and federal laws for certified natural and certified grass-fed beef that are in existence today. Mr. Congdon also created the template that is used for every right to farm ordinance in Montana, and numerous other states. He served on the Missoula Conservation District for ten years. He continues to assist and support conservation districts whenever and however he can. Mr. Congdon is a member of the Agriculture Committee for the Missoula Chamber of Commerce. He earned his J.D. degree at University of Montana Law School and returned to teach Agricultural Law and Land Use Law and Regulation. Mr. Congdon teaches Natural Resources-Environmental Law at University of Montana Western in Dillon as well. His BS is in geography and economics from the University of Montana and graduate diploma is in rural land use planning from Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand. He owns and operates Big Sky Natural Beef, a beef company and ranches in western Montana. He is proud to be a "dirt lawyer.& Land-water rights easements, rights-of-way, and estates in real property. His focus is protection, preservation, prevention of damage and promotion of use and utilization of our natural resources. He doesn't run an email, answers the phone 24/7 and believes what he was taught- "The fastest way to move cows... is slow." That theory is incorporated in the planning efforts he helps local government work on.
