Required South Dakota CLE Credits

South Dakota does not currently require attorneys to complete continuing legal education credits. However, on June 20, 2025, members of the State Bar of South Dakota approved a proposal to implement a mandatory CLE requirement. If the South Dakota Supreme Court approves the proposal, attorneys may be required to complete 20 hours of CLE every two years, beginning in 2027.

If the South Dakota Supreme Court approves the proposal, attorneys may be required to complete 20.00 CLE hours every two years, starting in 2027, requiring a certificate of completion.
