Speaker bio
Luke Maher
is a partner at Norton Rose Fulbright US LLP. He focuses his dispute resolution and litigation practice on commercial litigation, with a particular emphasis on construction disputes. Mr. Maher advises public and private clients in a number of industries including construction, finance, franchise, insurance, manufacturing, real estate and transportation. Her has significant experience in the courtroom, including federal trial experience. Mr. Maher has litigated in state and federal courts at both the trial and appellate levels, and also has extensive arbitration and mediation experience. In addition to his disputes practice, he represents clients in negotiation and drafting of development, construction, design, engineering, and related agreements. Mr. Maher represents owner, developer, and contractor clients in public and private construction projects, including hotels, energy and power plant facilities, condominium and multifamily residential housing developments, healthcare facilities, entertainment complexes, and shopping centers. He also advises owner, developer and contractor clients involved in ongoing construction projects with respect to preservation of contract claims and defenses and best practices for preparing for impending dispute resolution. Mr. Maher is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and The Missouri Bar. He earned his B.A. degree in management information systems from the University of Notre Dame and his J.D. degree from St. Louis University School of Law.

Amanda Szmuc
is an attorney at Offit Kurman, Attorneys At Law. She represents individuals and businesses in a wide range of litigation matters, with experience spanning commercial claims, general civil disputes, business torts, construction-related litigation, and intellectual property matters. Her clients include corporations of all sizes, entrepreneurs, contractors and subcontractors, and creative professionals. Her experiences include drafting the winning brief that successfully opposed a petition for writ of certiorari before the United States Supreme Court; leading a bid protest where she obtained emergency restraints and ultimately secured both preliminary and permanent injunctions; and serving as first chair in trial court matters, where she prevailed on evidentiary motions excluding thousands of documents from the opposing party's case. She has also represented corporations in mechanics' lien hearings, protecting their rights and defeating counterclaims in full. She earned her B.S. degree, magna cum laude, from Seton Hall University and J.D. degree from The George Washington University School of Law.

is of senior counsel at Otten Johnson Robinson Neff + Ragonetti PC. She is an experienced real estate and construction attorney whose practice focuses on commercial retail, agricultural, and industrial properties across the country. She has extensive experience preparing and negotiating purchase and sale documents, leases, construction contracts and related development agreements, and borrower-side financing documents. Her background includes serving as associate general counsel for a local furniture store chain, where she negotiated purchase and sale contracts for various commercial retail, residential, agricultural, and industrial properties. This in-house corporate experience has given her a deep understanding of her clients' business operations, enabling her to provide practical and business-focused legal advice. She earned her B.A. degree, summa cum laude, from Ball State University and her J.D. degree, cum laude, from Duke University School of Law.

Mark Johnson
is of principal at Offit Kurman, Attorneys At Law. He brings seasoned leadership to complex legal challenges. He has served as lead counsel in over 30 jury trials, bench trials, and high-stakes arbitrations, handling disputes across construction, environmental compliance, land use, landlord-tenant issues, oil and gas, real estate, and toxic torts, with over three decades of construction, environmental, and real estate litigation experience. His construction law practice encompasses representing owners, general contractors, subcontractors, and design professionals in private and public works disputes. His extensive experience includes resolving claims involving extra work, changed conditions, delays, loss of productivity, defective workmanship, product liability for construction materials, insurance coverage for construction defect claims and property damage claims, including fire damage claims, and California contractor licensing laws. He has successfully navigated construction disputes in state and federal courts across multiple states and before the federal Civilian Board of Contract Appeals and California's Public Works Contract Arbitration program. He also represents creditors in Chapter 7 and Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases involving environmental damage claims. A respected author and speaker, he regularly shares his insights on legal and regulatory developments impacting the construction industry. He earned his B.S. degree from University of Southern California and his J.D. degree from Loyola Law School.

is an attorney with Nixon Peabody LLP where he is a member of the complex commercial disputes practice group. He is an experienced litigator who represents entities and individuals in federal and state courts in a variety of areas, including restrictive covenants, insurance coverage, professional liability, construction, commercial leases, and labor and employment. He earned his B.B.A. degree from Adelphi University and his J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center. Mr. Diskin is a member of the New York City Bar Association, Trademarks and Unfair Competition Committee and is admitted to practice in New York.
