He is a trained civil and domestic relations mediator and has experience with issues involving uncontested divorce, contested divorce, prenuptial agreements, child custody, child support, and criminal defense. Mr. Burdick is a member of the Alabama State Bar, and is licensed to practice in Federal District courts in Alabama, 11th Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is also a member of the Alabama Law Institute Standing Committee on Family Law, which helps the legislature prepare new proposed laws in the area of family law. Mr. Burdick is committed to parents rights to the care and custody of their children and is a member of the National Parents Organization's Alabama Executive Committee. He frequently lectures and instructs on family law issues at continuing legal education seminars and other organized events. Mr. Burdick graduated summa cum laude from the University of Montevallo. He earned his J.D. degree from the Birmingham School of Law, and graduated in the top third of his class.

Before going on the bench, she practiced law with her primary focus on domestic relations. Judge Irby earned her B.S. degree from Central Michigan University and her J.D. degree from Thomas W. Cooley Law School.
