Hon. William W Sharp retired as a Judge of the 26th Circuit Court, where he presided in Warren County. Before his election to the Circuit Court, Judge Sharp served as a Judge of the 26th District Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for twenty-five years and was Chief Judge of that court from 1998 to 2007. Immediately following retirement Judge Sharp participated in the Judicial Settlement Program sponsored by the Supreme Court of Virginia. He was successful in settling numerous family law matters and other civil disputes. In 2018 Judge Sharp received an honor much prized by members of the judiciary, the Harry L. Carrico Outstanding Career Service Award. This award is given annually by the Judicial Council of Virginia to recognize a Judge who goes above and beyond the call of duty in giving back to the courts and the surrounding communities. The following year he received the 2019 Lelia Baum Hopper Service Award from the Virginia Council of Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court Judges. Judge Sharp was an active member of the Virginia Court Improvement Program Advisory Board, the Warren County Foster Care Best Practices Team, and the Frederick/Winchester Best Practices Team. He has previously served as chairman of the State Advisory Committee on Child Support Litigation and the Juvenile Court Judges/DCSE Support Committee. Before his election to the bench Judge Sharp practiced law in Front Royal, Virginia. He handled a variety of civil litigation matters, including personal injury, workers compensation, real estate disputes and contracts generally. He also handled criminal litigation in the Office of the Commonwealth's Attorney in Front Royal, Virginia. Mr. Sharp earned his B.A. degree from Yale College and his J.D. degree from Marshall-Wythe School of Law, College of William and Mary.
