's legal practice is focused on litigation and regulatory matters. In his litigation practice, he represents clients in commercial litigation before the state and federal courts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Mr. McDermott's regulatory practice is centered on representing clients in the banking, insurance, and cannabis industries before state and federal regulators. His litigation experience includes a variety of complex commercial disputes, contract claims, employment matters, land use and zoning disputes, and appellate matters. Mr. McDermott provides practical, down-to-earth advice to clients in litigated disputes ranging from mechanic's liens to software contract disputes. In his regulatory practice, he represents numerous banks and credit unions, mortgage companies, and other financial institutions, insurers and insurance agencies, and cannabis cultivators and dispensaries in connection with investigations, examinations, contested matters, and licensing before state and federal regulators and in state and federal courts. Because Mr. McDermott's practice involves both individual clients and larger corporate clients, he uses his familiarity with a variety of different tools and technologies to cost-effectively manage disputed matters of nearly any size. This is especially useful in managing the extensive discovery that accompanies complex commercial and business litigation. He is familiar with and has experience using a variety of electronic tools and technology-assisted review software to better manage the scope and cost of document and fact investigation. Mr. McDermott earned his B.A. degree, cum laude, from Seton Hall University and his J.D. degree, summa cum laude, from Pepperdine University School of Law.
