Speaker bio
Paul D. Friedman
is chief litigation and general counsel with Brown, Crowell & Friedman, PLLC d/b/a Accident Law Group. He practices in the areas of medical malpractice, significant personal injury and ethics matters. Dr. Friedman is admitted to practice in Arizona, Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is board-certified by the National Board of Legal Specialty Certification in civil pretrial practice advocacy and civil trial advocacy (NBOTA). Dr. Friedman has been certified in injury and wrongful death litigation by the State Bar of Arizona since 1997. He is an associate with the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). Dr. Friedman is also a medical malpractice diplomate with the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Examiners®, where he developed the curriculum for the Certified Forensic Consulting® Certification Course and authored the Certified Forensic Consultant Body of Knowledge by CRC Press. Dr. Friedman graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona. He earned his law degree from California Western School of Law, his master's degree in bioethics from Midwestern University/Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine and his doctorate from LaCrosse University. Dr. Friedman was an adjunct professor of medical and research ethics at Midwestern University and the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he instructed health care providers and students in the medical field. He is currently an adjunct professor with the Sandra Day O'Connor School of Law at Arizona State University.

Daniel Torrens
is an attorney with Rusing Lopez & Lizardi, PLLC, where he practices in the areas of personal injury litigation, alternative dispute resolution, and commercial litigation. Mr. Torrens lectures nationally in the areas of contracts, personal injury, and trial advocacy. He is a faculty member of the Arizona College of Trial Advocacy and a graduate of the State Bar of Arizona's CLE Institute. Mr. Torrens is a member of the State Bar of Arizona and the Colorado Bar Association. He is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and a judge pro tem with the Maricopa County Superior Court. Mr. Torrens earned his B.A. degree from Arizona State University and his J.D. degree from the University of Nebraska.

Steven B. Vinick
is of counsel with the law firm of Stein Sperling Bennett De Jong Driscoll, P.C., and practices in the areas of personal injury law, medical malpractice, criminal defense, and general civil litigation. He is licensed to practice law in Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Virginia. He is on the Board of Directors for the Montgomery County Bar Association, and he is the Treasurer of the Prince George's County Bar Association. He is also a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the D.C. Trial Lawyers Association, and the Maryland Association of Justice. Mr. Vinick was the Maryland Association of Justice Trial Lawyer of the Year for 2011. He earned his B.A. degree, Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude, from the University of Maryland; and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Baltimore School of Law.

Daniel M. Schiavetta
is of counsel at Russo & Gould LLP. He specializes in nursing home and adult residential facility defense and has wide experience in appellate and insurance coverage litigation. Mr. Schiavetta has prosecuted rescission, declaratory judgment and interpleader actions in state and federal court on behalf of various insurers; and has tried cases involving medical malpractice and premises liability. He gives presentations to nursing homes as to charting and litigation issues, and is responsible for two changes in case law. Mr. Schiavetta earned his B.A. degree from State University of New York and his J.D. degree from the University of California, Davis School of Law. He is admitted to New York and New Jersey federal courts, and Second Circuit Court of Appeals and Third Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Schiavetta is a member of the Westchester County Bar Association, New Rochelle Bar Association and Defense Research Institute. His recent book, The Supreme Court for Short Attention Spans, is available on Amazon.
