Stephen D. Heninger
is a partner in the Birmingham office of Heninger Garrison Davis, LLC. Mr. Heninger has represented plaintiffs in civil ligation for the past 40 years. He has taught courses in trial work for the American Association for Justice (AAJ) at such prestigious law schools as Harvard, Georgetown, Stanford, University of Wisconsin, University of North Carolina and the University of Alabama. He earned his B.A. degree from the University of Illinois and his J.D. degree, summa cum laude, from Cumberland School of Law.

Garrett Zoghby
is a partner with Adams and Reese LLP. His primary focuses include litigating personal injury, premises liability, insurance defense, medical malpractice, product liability, and trucking accidents. Mr. Zoghby is well versed in all phases of litigation, from risk mitigation and pre-suit negotiations to coordinating large-scale electronic discovery, taking depositions, drafting Daubert and dispositive motions, and trial. He has successfully argued cases all the way through appeal before courts of last resort, including the Alabama Supreme Court and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Mr. Zoghby earned his J.D. degree, with honors, from Birmingham School of Law.

Carter R. Hale
is managing attorney of Vernis & Bowling's Mobile, Alabama office. He has developed a diverse litigation and trial practice over the past 25 years, though a great portion of his time is concentrated on defending professional liability claims; catastrophic injury and death cases; employment law matters; construction design and defect actions, and complex products liability cases. Mr. Hale is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Alabama and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida; and has been admitted pro hac vice numerous times in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, Orleans Parish and Mississippi. He earned his B.S. degree from Hampden-Sydney College and his J.D. degree from Cumberland School of Law, Samford University. Mr. Hale is a member of the Alabama State Bar (Litigation, Construction Industry, and Labor and Employment Law Sections); Mobile Bar Association, and Alabama Defense Lawyers Association. He frequently speaks to business and legal professionals on current and emerging issues in the law, and on risk management and mitigation strategies.

Robert E. Cooper
is a mediator with Upchurch, Watson, White & Max Mediation Group and he has transitioned to a mediation practice with Upchurch, Watson, White & Max. His career has focused on the representation of healthcare providers, including hospitals, doctors, nursing homes and allied support personnel, product liability litigation, and trucking companies and their employees. Mr. Cooper has lectured for the Alabama State Bar on several occasions and for other CLE seminars. He is a member of the Birmingham and American bar associations, the Alabama State Bar, the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, and the Federation of Corporate Counsel. Mr. Cooper, and is a fellow in The International Academy of Trial Lawyers, the American Board of Trial Advocates, and the Litigation Counsel of America. He earned both his B.S. and J.D. degrees from the University of Alabama.

Ellen T. Mathews
is a partner with Burr & Forman LLP's general commercial litigation and intellectual property groups. She represents institutional clients and individuals in a broad range of litigation matters, including contract disputes between businesses; disputes between franchisors and franchisees; financial services matters involving retail banks, credit card companies, and mortgage originators or servicers; disputes relating to distributorship, manufacturing, license, and warranty agreements; and operating agreement and shareholder disputes. Ms. Mathews also regularly represents clients in intellectual property litigation, including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret matters. Her patent experience involves a wide variety of technologies, such as devices for remotely communicating with and controlling electronic apparatuses, programmable light timers, work gear and tools, medical devices, and sporting goods and equipment. Ms. Mathew's trademark and copyright practice focuses primarily on the food and beverage, retail clothing, and music industries. Her intellectual property practice also extends to patent, trademark, and copyright prosecution; maintaining intellectual property portfolios; policing intellectual property rights; and assisting in franchise due diligence. Ms. Mathews is licensed to practice law in Alabama, Florida and North Carolina. She has represented clients in federal district courts in Alabama, California, Florida, New York, North Carolina and Texas. Ms. Mathews also represents clients in USPTO and US Copyright Office matters. She has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America® for her commercial litigation practice since 2023.
