Speaker bio
Mark Stignani
is a partner in the Minneapolis office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP. He is the chair of the firm's data analytics practice group, and applies his intellectual curiosity, technical and research savvy, and penchant for innovation to create a broad spectrum of analytics and strategic review of clients' corporate transactions, reorganizations, and intellectual property endeavors. Mr. Stignani earned his J.D. degree from William Mitchell College of Law while working for Alliant Techsystems. He previously had completed postgraduate work in robotics and control systems at the University of Minnesota and National Technological University, while working at Honeywell, Inc. Further, Mr. Stignani is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP). He offers his insights through dozens of webinars annually, and serves as a regular lecturer at colleges and universities across the state of Minnesota. Mr. Stignani also is a frequent speaker for various associations and conferences, including Reel Lawyer, Black Hills IP Analytics Series, LES International and Practicing Law Institute.

Alan S. Wernick
is an attorney, arbitrator/mediator, and writer. He is a Martindale AV-rated attorney and a leading lawyer in computer and technology law. Mr. Wernick is admitted to practice in Illinois, New York, Ohio and Washington DC. He has more than 45 years of experience and leadership roles, including in the practice of law in information technology, intellectual property, and privacy law; as in-house general counsel; with the successful handling of numerous large complex transactions and mergers and acquisitions due diligence, in strategic counseling of clients in the management of their technology and intellectual capital assets, and in dispute resolution including litigation, arbitration, mediation, and appeals. Mr. Wernick's multidisciplinary background in law, technology, and accounting helps clients meet their business objectives and manage their legal strategies and risks. Since 1982, his practice has focused on computer and information technology law, computer systems acquisitions, privacy, cybersecurity, outsourcing, Internet, e-commerce, copyright, trademark, trade secret, and licensing law. Mr. Wernick provides practical legal advice and strategic counseling to clients in a variety of industries in connection with significant transactional, due diligence, and dispute resolution matters involving these issues.He is a prolific writer and presenter at numerous CLE, public, private industry, professional, and trade associations presentations. Mr. Wernick serves in leadership roles in national and international organizations involved with computer and information technology law, privacy, and intellectual property and on the advisory board of legal publications. In addition, he has a technical background in computer programming and a B.S. degree in accounting. Specialties include technical background and work experience in computer programming and as a computer system operator and systems analyst, including work as a research assistant at The Ohio State University doing computer program development and consulting (as well as developing computer-based training courseware) and statistical analysis. Joseph M. Fusz
is of counsel with the Chicago office of Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker LLP. He assists clients with cyber risk management and compliance, and in responding to cybersecurity incidents and breaches and to state and federal regulatory investigations. Mr. Fusz has years of criminal and civil litigation experience, including jury trials, bench trials, administrative hearings and dispositive motion practice. He also has experience conducting investigative incident response to threats and insider misconduct as well as critical threat assessment. Immediately prior to joining Wilson Elser, Mr. Fusz served in the Lake County State's Attorney's Office as the Division Chief of the Cyber Crimes Division and of the Special Investigations Division, and led a diverse team of prosecutors, sworn investigators and digital forensic lab personnel. In those roles, He engaged with and advised local, state and federal law enforcement agencies in the investigation and prosecution of complex cyber and financial criminal matters, as well as public integrity and other special investigations, from inception through litigation. Mr. Fusz has received specialized training on digital forensic evidence, network intrusion and cybercriminal investigations at the National Computer Forensics Institute (NCFI) in Hoover, Alabama, as well as the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) in Alexandria, Virginia. He also is a military veteran and former commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps. Extremely active in the legal community, Mr. Fusz is a member of multiple professional organizations. He served as president of the Lake County Bar Association (LCBA) from 2021-2022, and in several other leadership roles on its Board of Directors from 2015–2023. Additionally, Mr. Fusz has led multiple LCBA practice area committees, including serving as co-chair of the Civil Trial & Appeals Committee, and as chair of the Young & New Lawyers Committee. He has presented at multiple legal seminars on social media evidence, digital evidentiary foundations and ethics. Mr. Fusz is also an adjunct faculty member in an ABA-Approved Legal Studies program at the College of Lake County. He currently teaches civil litigation, and has served as a guest instructor for introduction to forensics as well as business law.

Jonathan Meer
is highly experienced in the area of insurance coverage, including monitoring and coverage determinations. He maintains a particular concentration in coverage for directors and officers (D&O), with an emphasis on the growing area of D&Os in cannabis companies; professional errors and omissions (E&O); lawyers (LPL); employment practices; and cyber liability programs. Mr. Meer represents the interests of primary and excess insurers based in the United States, China, London and Bermuda in high-exposure claims against directors and officers of public and private companies, nonprofit boards, financial institutions and insurance companies. He has addressed claims related to shareholder class actions seeking multimillion-dollar damages against public companies and their directors and officers, as well as other high-profile fraud cases involving a variety of issues. In addition, Mr. Meer's litigation practice focuses on commercial litigation and professional liability. He has experience with matters arising under E&O policies covering attorneys, co-op boards, software developers, engineers, property owners, real estate professionals, consultants, agents, and other professionals. Mr. Meer also handles employment matters involving all types of discrimination and harassment, retaliation and wrongful termination claims. Further, he regularly provides defense, advice and counseling to a number of clients on fair housing matters and assists in developing fair housing - related policies and procedures. Mr. Meer is active in the insurance industry, serving as a mentor for female professionals in The Bridge Transcend program, a D&O Trend Advisor for the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS), and longtime chair of the New York City Bar Association's D&O insurance event. He has spoken at multiple in-person and online events in recent years, including programs sponsored by the Claims and Litigation Management Alliance (CLM), ExecuSummit, and the Brokers & Reinsurance Markets Association. In addition, Mr. Meer is the author of the definitive chapter on D&O liability exposure in the United States for the Globe Law and Business publication Directors' Liability and Indemnification: A Global Guide. He earned his A.B. degree, cum laude, and his M.P.A. degree from Cornell University; and his J.D. degree from Rutgers School of Law.
