Speaker bio
Jay J. Athey
is an attorney with Littler Mendelson P.C., where his practice focuses on representing employers in workplace law matters, including discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage claims on the agency level and in litigation. He defends local, regional and national employers in retaliatory discharge/wrongful termination litigation and more complex litigation, such as class action and collective action cases under the Fair Labor Standards Act and New Mexico Minimum Wage Act. Mr. Athey also represents public employers in litigation involving sovereign immunity under the Federal Torts Claims Act and New Mexico Torts Claims Act. Prior to joining Littler, he practiced in Florida, Colorado and Montana, defending all types of civil litigation cases in state and federal court. Mr. Athey earned his B.A. degree, cum laude, from Flagler College and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from Florida State University College of Law. He is a member of the State Bar of New Mexico Bar, State Bar of Montana, Colorado Bar Association and The Florida Bar. Mr. Athey is admitted to practice in New Mexico; Montana; U.S. District Court, District of New Mexico; U.S. District Court, District of Montana; U.S. District Court, District of Colorado; and the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Florida.

Quentin F. Smith
is a shareholder/director in the law firm of Stelzner, Winter, Warburton, Flores & Dawes, P.A., where he focuses his practice on employment and labor law, and general civil litigation. Mr. Smith has successfully defended employers against a wide variety of lawsuits, such as discrimination and sexual harassment claims, retaliatory discharge claims, breach-of-contract claims, and whistleblower claims. He is a member of the State Bar of New Mexico, State Bar of Texas, Albuquerque and American bar associations, New Mexico Defense Lawyers Association, and Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Mr. Smith is admitted to practice in New Mexico and Texas; and before the U.S. District Court District of New Mexico and U.S. Court of Appeals Tenth Circuit. He earned his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Texas Christian University and his J.D. degree, summa cum laude, from the University of New Mexico School of Law, Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Alyssa D. Rogers
is legal counsel for Valley Bank of Commerce in Roswell, New Mexico. Prior to moving in-house, Ms. Rogers was a shareholder with Atwood, Malone, Turner, & Sabin, P.A., where she worked on a broad range of cases including medical malpractice, municipal defense, oil and gas matters, employment litigation, workers' compensation, and insurance defense. Ms. Rogers received her B.A. degree from Oklahoma State University and her J.D. degree from University of Oklahoma College of Law. She is currently the treasurer for the Chaves County Bar Association and is admitted to practice law in New Mexico and before the U.S. District Court, District of New Mexico.

Chrisanne M. Gultz
is an associate with the Phoenix office of Littler Mendelson P.C. She focuses on employment litigation in federal and state courts, including claims of discrimination, retaliation, and harassment. Ms. Gultz also handles charges brought against employers in federal and state agencies, such as the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Civil Rights Division of the Arizona Attorney General's Office (ACRD). She has experience in all phases of litigation, from case inception through discovery and trial. Ms. Gultz has served as second-chair counsel in three federal jury trials on issues of discrimination and harassment. Although unafraid to take cases to trial, she also keeps her clients out of court by securing nominal settlements and preventing potential claims. Ms. Gultz regularly counsels employers in a variety of industries on compliance with federal and state labor and employment law, conducts internal investigations, and drafts employee handbooks. She earned her B.S. degree, magna cum laude, from Arizona State University and her J.D. degree from Arizona State University College of Law.
