Speaker bio
Christopher L. Cauble
is a partner in the firm of Cauble & Whittington, LLP in Grants Pass, practicing in the area of probate and trust litigation, including litigating claims, money that has been stolen by PR's or fiduciaries, defending or prosecuting will contests and elder abuse litigation. He also deals with all estate and probate related tax issues. Mr. Cauble is admitted to practice in Oregon and before the U.S. Tax Court, U.S. District Court District of Oregon, as well as the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. He earned his B.A. degree from Willamette University and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from Gonzaga University School of Law.

Barbara Smythe
is an attorney with Elder Law Portland LLC. Ms. Smythe earned her J.D. degree from Lewis & Clark Law School in 1992, where she served on the Law Review and Moot Court Honor Board. Ms. Smythe practiced law with large and small firms before opening her own practice in 2013. Throughout her career, she has been active in service and leadership roles within the Oregon legal community, and currently sits on the OSB Legal Ethics Committee, the Washington County Bench-Bar Committee, and the Newsletter Board for the Elder Law Section of the OSB. Ms. Smythe frequently writes and speaks to community and professional groups on estate and elder law issues. She has also served for many years as a volunteer coach and judge for the Classroom Law Project High School Mock Trial competition.

Jeff S. Patterson
is a partner with Lynch Murphy McLane, LLP. Mr. Patterson has practiced estate planning in Oregon for over 17 years. He offers expertise in advanced estate and gift tax planning, including various charitable giving strategies, advanced estate and gift tax structures, and succession planning. Mr. Patterson is a member of the Executive Committee for the Tax Section of the Oregon State Bar, a member of the Estate Planning and Tax Sections of the Oregon State Bar, and a member of the Central Oregon Estate Planning Council. He earned his J.D. degree from the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College and his LL.M. degree in taxation from the University of Alabama School of Law. Mr. Patterson is a fellow with the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC).
