Speaker bio
Christopher C. Young
is a senior attorney with Gravis Law PLLC. He practiced in the Philadelphia area for thirteen years, representing Fortune 100 clients in the insurance and financial services industries. He returned to Montana in 2014, having had enough of big cities and their corresponding stressors. He identified the medical marijuana industry as an area with a substantial unmet need for legal services and began a regulatory compliance practice, among other areas of the law. He established the Young Law Office in 2016, where his cannabis regulatory practice grew every year. He joined Gravis Law PLLC in November 2021, in part to expand the services he could provide to his cannabis clients. He now represents several dozen Montana marijuana businesses and provides them legal services, including business agreements and cannabis-related mergers and acquisitions. Mr. Young is admitted to practice in Montana and Pennsylvania and before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, U.S. District Court District for the District of New Jersey, U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He earned his B.A. degree from Carleton College and J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from William Mitchell College of Law.

Michael H. Hekman
is an attorney with Garlington, Lohn & Robinson, PLLP, where his practice focuses in advising lenders and banks in all scope of matters, including state and federal compliance, bankruptcy, loss mitigation, foreclosures, workouts, cannabis law, and default actions. Mr. Hekman has extensive experience both prosecuting and defending banks and creditors in all manners of actions, including lien validity claims, fraud, lender liability, condemnations, TILA, RESPA, FDCPA, and state consumer protection actions. His extensive bankruptcy experience includes representing creditors of all sizes in adversary proceedings; cases under chapters 7, 11, 12, and 13 of the bankruptcy code; and on appeals. Mr. Hekman previously worked at a national bankruptcy and creditors rights firm, overseeing the firm’s compliance and risk management processes in addition to his practice. He also has a real estate practice, with experience in prosecuting and defending quiet title and other declaratory actions to resolve boundary disputes, lien priority issues, and access rights. Mr. Hekman has also handled a variety of real estate transactions and workouts, ranging from small to multi-million-dollar negotiations. He also holds a Master of Laws in taxation and is experienced in business and corporate tax issues. Mr. Hekman earned his B.A. degree from Calvin College, his J.D. degree from Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School, and his LL.M. degree in taxation from University of Washington School of Law.

Jessica M. DeMarois
is the owner of JDMT Law, where she is experienced in guiding her clients through the complex and evolving frontiers of Montana cannabis and alcohol licensing law. She has a background in federal and state taxation, non-profit administration, administrative, and criminal law, formerly working as a King County criminal prosecutor in Seattle and as a senior deputy attorney general at the Montana Department of Revenue. Ms. DeMarois earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Montana Davidson Honors College and her law degree from the University of Montana School of Law, and her Masters degree in tax law from University of Washington School of Law.
