Speaker bio
Hon. George W. Overton
is a judge of the Court of Common Pleas for Philadelphia County. He was elected to the bench in 2001, commissioned in January 2002, and retained for a second ten year term in 2011. Judge Overton is assigned currently to the Orphans' Court Division, where he presides over matters involving estates, trusts, guardianships, incapacities, power of attorneys, birth records, marriage licenses and non-profit charitable corporations. During his tenure, he also has presided over various criminal, civil, and family court cases. Judge Overton has served as a member of statewide Judicial Education Committee of the Pennsylvania Conference of State Trial Judges (PCSTJ). He is a former president of the PCSTJ, and also served as chair and co-chair of several programs for the Education Committee of the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania (FJD). Judge Overton is currently chairman of the General Rules Committee for the FJD. He earned his B.A. degree from Clark University and his J.D. degree from Delaware Law School at Widener University. Judge Overton is an adjunct professor of law at the Delaware Law School at Widener University, where he teaches Pennsylvania Practice.

Benjamin S. Johns
is an attorney with Jones, Gregg, Creehan & Gerace, LLP in downtown Pittsburgh. He focuses his practice squarely on the "four pillars" of the Orphans' Court: estate planning, estate administration, estate litigation and guardianship. Mr. Johns is active in the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Real Property, Probate and Trust Section, and many elder law and estate planning groups. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the Honors College at the University of Pittsburgh in 2005, and his Juris Doctorate from Duquesne University School of Law in 2009.

Patti S. Spencer
is an attorney with Metzger and Spencer, LLP and Spencer Law Firm LLC in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she provides experience and depth in estate planning, trust and estate administration, complex tax consulting, charitable gift planning, wealth transfer vehicles and retirement plan consulting, and expert witness testimony. Ms. Spencer taught estate and gift tax for eight years as an adjunct professor at Boston University in the LL.M. program, and also was a former professor of trusts and estates at Boston University School of Law. In addition, she has spoken numerous times on topics related to her areas of expertise. Ms. Spencer is the author of a weekly column Taxing Matters, which appeared in the Lancaster Intelligencer Journal's Business Monday Section for 14 years. She also has written Pennsylvania Estate Planning, Wills and Trusts Library: Forms and Practice Manual, Data Trace, which is updated annually. Ms. Spencer earned her B.A. degree from Dickinson College, her J.D. degree from Boston University and her LL.M. degree from Boston University. She is a fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

Beth A. Dodson
is a practicing attorney (NY and PA), certified mediator, and judicial arbitrator. She is the principal of Dodson Law P.C. and currently represents clients in real estate, estates and trust formation and administration, and employment related matters. Previously, she served as Managing Director and Senior Counsel in the Legal Department at BNY Mellon, where she managed trust and estate litigation as well as a variety of other financial services litigation and real estate and lending matters. Attorney Dodson also has over a decade of experience in private practice as a trial attorney and has litigated disputes concerning trust and estate administration, real estate, employment, financial services, securities matters, as well as clients facing white collar criminal charges in federal court. In November 2023, Attorney Dodson was elected Magisterial District Judge for District Court 56-3-03, located in Carbon County, Pennsylvania. She will be sworn in and assume the bench on January 1, 2024. Attorney Dodson earned a B.A. from Elizabethtown College and J.D. from Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University, both magna cum laude. She was named the Pennsylvania Bar Foundations 2017 Pro Bono Attorney of the Year and also has been named a PA Super Lawyer, Rising Star, on several occasions.

Hon. Jarah L. Heeter
is an attorney at Heeter & Associates, P.C and was elected to serve as a Magisterial District Judge in 2019. She focuses her practice in real estate, estate planning, estate administration, planning for long term care, solar leases, and oil and gas. Judge Heeter earned her B.S. degree from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and her J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law. She is admitted to practice in Pennsylvania and the United States District Court.
