Speaker bio
Quentin F. Smith
is a shareholder/director in the law firm of Stelzner, Winter, Warburton, Flores & Dawes, P.A., where he focuses his practice on employment and labor law, and general civil litigation. Mr. Smith has successfully defended employers against a wide variety of lawsuits, such as discrimination and sexual harassment claims, retaliatory discharge claims, breach-of-contract claims, and whistleblower claims. Mr. Smith is a member of the State Bar of New Mexico, the Albuquerque and American bar associations, the New Mexico Defense Lawyers Association, and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). He is admitted to practice in New Mexico, and before the U.S. District Court, District of New Mexico; and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit. Mr. Smith earned his B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Texas Christian University; and his J.D. degree, summa cum laude, from the University of New Mexico School of Law, Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Helen Holden
is a partner with Spencer Fane LLP, where she helps businesses understand how successfully navigating the alphabet soup of federal and state employment laws can positively impact company culture. Ms. Holden brings over 20 years of experience to her focus on management-side employment law, which is evident in the practical advice and training she provides to management on human resource issues. Her clients include companies in diverse industry sectors, including construction, real estate, manufacturing, technology, health care, distribution, and the retail and service sectors. Ms. Holden earned her A.B. degree, with honors, from Bryn Mawr College and her J.D. degree, Order of the Coif, from Arizona State University - Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law. She is a member of the Defense Research Institute (vice chair, Employment and Labor Law Committee 2022-2024), State Bar of Arizona (Civil Practice & Procedure Committee 2010-2016, Labor and Employment Law Section, Appellate Practice Section), Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel (former chair, Employment Practices and Workplace Liability Section), Claims & Litigation Management Alliance, and the Employee Misclassification Compliance Assistance Program (EMCAP) Working Group. Ms. Holden is admitted to practice in Arizona, New Mexico, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona and the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.

Trent A. Howell
is a 26-year New Mexico lawyer focused in employment and whistleblower trial practice. Formerly a partner in the defense firms of Jackson Lewis and Holland & Hart, Mr. Howell is now a sole practitioner, defending companies and representing employee-plaintiffs. He graduated University of Texas (BA English, Special Honors), inducted Sigma Tau Delta, and University of Texas School of Law (JD), inducted Board of Advocates. He has been New Mexico Board Specialized in Employment (2005-10, 2017-21) and in America’s Most Honored Professionals|Top 1%, Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers, Lead Counsel, Top Rated Lawyers, Super Lawyers, Lawyers of Distinction, Chambers Leading Business Lawyers, and International Association of Defense Counsel.
