Speaker bio
Joseph A. DeWoskin
is a solo practitioner in Kansas City, Kansas. He practices in the areas of family law, military law, landlord/tenant, Uniform Services and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), and general litigation. Mr. DeWoskin is admitted to practice law in Missouri, Kansas, U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Federal District Court for the Western District of Missouri, U.S. Federal District Court of Kansas, United States Army Criminal Court of Appeals, and United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces. He has over 29 years of legal experience, including nearly 9 years of service on active duty with the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General's (JAG) Corps. Mr. DeWoskin retired in 2018 as a Lieutenant Colonel, after serving approximately 27 years both on active duty and in the U.S. Army Reserves. He has been retained on multiple occasions to testify and assist as an expert on legal matters relating to divorce involving military personnel, including cases involving the division of military retirement, Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA), Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), and rights under the Uniformed Services Former Spouses Protection Act. Mr. DeWoskin has taught CLEs nationwide on issues including military specific family law issues related to divorce, child support, child custody, and the division of the military retirement, as well as the SCRA and USERRA. He earned his B.A. degree from Washington & Jefferson College and his J.D. degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law.

Steven F. Fillenwarth
is a principal in Fillenwarth & Associates, practicing almost exclusively family law in Indianapolis, Indiana. He also is a certified public accountant who brings extensive experience in business and pension valuation, estate planning techniques, and knowledge of complex tax matters relating to divorce and relationship dissolutions to his practice of family law. Mr. Fillenwarth specializes in financially complicated marital estates. He has extensive experience representing parents and children litigating and negotiating complex child custody and divorce cases. Mr. Fillenwarth is a co-author of Kleinroch Publishing’s Divorce Taxation. He has lectured at numerous continuing legal education seminars throughout the U.S. Mr. Fillenwarth is a registered family law mediator and a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve JAG Corps. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and is a board-certified family law specialist with the Indiana State Bar Association Family Law Certification Board. Mr. Fillenwarth earned his B.S. degree from Indiana University, Bloomington and his J.D. degree from Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis.
