Speaker bio
Kelly E. Thompson
is an attorney practicing in Raleigh. Her primary areas of practice include absolute divorce, mediation, custody, child support, equitable distribution, and alimony and post separation support. Ms. Thompson earned her undergraduate degree from West Virginia University. She earned her J.D. degree, cum laude, from Campbell University School of Law. While in school, she worked for Professor Richard Lord as a Williston Scholar and tutored other students as a teaching scholar. Ms. Thompson was also a member of the Law Review, and clerked with the Mast Law Firm in Smithfield.

Jason F. Hicks
is an assistant county attorney with Guilford County, North Carolina. He is licensed in both Tennessee and North Carolina. Over the course of his career, Mr. Hicks has practiced family/divorce law, probate and litigation, as well as elder law, juvenile law, and local government law. He is a member of the District 24 (NC), Putnam County (TN), Tennessee, North Carolina, and American bar associations. Mr. Hicks is currently the president of the North Carolina DSS Attorney's Association. He is past-president of the Putnam County Bar Association and the Upper Cumberland Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Hicks is also the past vice-president of the Tennessee Bar Association-Young Lawyers Division. He is a frequent speaker at legal education seminars, having presented over forty CLE presentations. Mr. Hicks is a barrister member of the Guilford Chapter, American Inn of Courts. He earned his B.A. degree from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville and his J.D. degree from Faulkner University, Thomas Goode Jones School of Law.

David E. Holm
is an attorney with Parker Bryan Family Law, where his practice areas include equitable distribution of property (including QDROs), premarital agreements, separation agreements, absolute divorce, child custody, child support, and alimony. Mr. Holm drafts QDROs for his own clients and for other attorneys that seek his assistance, and has drafted over 300 domestic relations orders. He served as president of the Wake County Bar Association in 2021. Mr. Holm is a past chair of the North Carolina Bar Association's Family Law Section. He has been a board-certified specialist in family law since 2006. Mr. Holm earned his B.A. degree from North Carolina State University and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law.

Lauren E. Leader
has spent her decade-long legal career as a family law attorney at James, McElroy & Diehl, P.A. in Charlotte, North Carolina. She is licensed in both North Carolina and South Carolina, and she enjoys representing domestic clients in both states. Her practice encompasses all aspects of family law. While regularly in the courtroom, Ms. Leader is also an advocate for amicable resolutions. In 2023 and 2024, Ms. Leader was named to the North Carolina Super Lawyers Rising Star list. She was also recognized in the field of family law within the 2024 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.

Elysia Prendergast-Jones
Esq., M.B.A., M.A., is a supervising attorney with Legal Aid of North Carolina. She supervises other in-house attorneys on family and juvenile law matters, advising on legal precedents, legal instruments, and the correct application of laws and statutes in district, superior and appellate courts. Ms. Prendergrast-Jones also speaks at numerous CLE seminars and trainings. She earned her B.A. degree from Coker College; her M.A. and M.B.A. degrees from Webster University; and her J.D. degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law.
