Speaker bio
James D. Houston
is a shareholder at Strauss Troy Co., LPA. He focuses his practice on construction and complex commercial litigation, surety law and OSHA compliance and claim defense. Mr. Houston also assists clients with their labor and employment needs. His trial experience includes first chair representation of contractors, design professionals, employers, sureties and business owners in both arbitration and traditional trial court settings (including actions for emergency injunctive relief). Mr. Houston has also successfully defended employers against various wrongful death and discrimination claims. He has drafted and successfully argued appellate briefs before various courts, including the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, various Ohio District Courts of Appeal and the Supreme Court of Ohio. Mr. Houston has also investigated and successfully defended claims involving serious workplace injuries or death including OSHA investigations. He earned his B.A. degree from Miami University and his J.D. degree, cum laude, from University of Dayton School of Law.

Eric Kjellander
represents various entities involved in commercial and public construction projects, including owners, contractors, developers, specialty trades, manufacturers, subcontractors, suppliers, surety companies, design professionals, and lenders through all aspects of construction law, including contract drafting, project management, alternative dispute resolution, and litigation. Project stakeholders have sought his experience across a broad range of industries including infrastructure, manufacturing, water, wastewater, energy, industrial, healthcare, education, multi-family, hospitality, entertainment, and senior living. Mr. Kjellander handles breach of contract claims, extra work claims, design and defect claims, schedule disputes, bond and lien claims, payment disputes, prompt pay disputes, prevailing wage issues, differing site conditions, bid protests, delay and acceleration claims, and other construction-related claims. His experience also includes representing sureties in multi-project defaults, including the investigation and defense of performance and payment bond claims on private and public projects; negotiation of takeover, tender and completion agreements; and performance of completion work. Mr. Kjellander is a frequent writer and speaker on construction related topics and is active in construction-related organizations. He is a member of the Builders Exchange (BX) of Central Ohio, the Associated Builders and Contractors of Central Ohio, Columbus Bar Association’s Construction Law Committee, and American Bar Association’s Forum on Construction Law. Mr. Kjellander is a fellow of the Construction Lawyers Society of America. He earned his B.A. degree from The Ohio State University and his J.D. degree from University of Illinois Chicago School of Law.

Andrew White
is an attorney at Strauss Troy Co., LPA. He focuses his practice in various areas of civil litigation, including general commercial and business litigation, construction litigation, and municipal and local government law. Mr. White earned his B.A. degree, summa cum laude, from University of Kentucky and his J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from University of Cincinnati College of Law.

David A. Schaefer
is a principal at McCarthy Lebit Crystal Liffman Co., LPA. He devotes the majority of his practice to product liability, business litigation, professional liability, employment discrimination, construction litigation, and he has extensive experience in complex business and tort litigation, addressing a diverse spectrum of personal and business grievances. Mr. Schaefer represents both public and private companies located in Ohio and nationwide. His seasoned judgment and fair mindedness often find him acting as an arbitrator and mediator. Mr. Schaefer recently served as a mediator in a six-party construction dispute with three personal injury actions and two related insurance coverage issues, all of which were resolved in approximately one day of mediation. He is a member of The National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals, an invitation-only alternative dispute resolution professional association. Mr. Schaefer earned his B.S. degree from Miami University-Oxford, his masters degree from Northwestern University and his J.D. degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.

Spencer E. Krebs
is an attorney at Tucker Ellis. He focuses his practice on construction law, complex commercial and business litigation, and community association law. Mr. Krebs represents construction industry clients, including owners, condominium and homeowners' associations, contractors, suppliers, architects and engineers, and design professionals. His litigation practice includes representing clients at trial and in arbitrations, mediations, and appeals involving a wide range of construction and real estate matters related to construction defect or delay claims, design negligence, contractual disputes, insurance coverage issues, and payment disputes. Mr. Krebs earned his B.A. degree from Notre Dame College and his J.D. degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
