Speaker bio
Brandi B. Frederick
is a shareholder at Austill Lewis Pipkin & Maddox, P.C. She has litigated employment-related and civil rights cases as well as commercial, real estate, automobile, trucking, and construction law cases in both state and federal courts, and before the American Arbitration Association. Ms. Frederick routinely develops personnel policies and procedures, and creates/updates employee handbooks for employers; advises businesses in complex employment law issues; and has conducted training for managers, supervisors, and human resources professionals regarding a variety of employment-related topics. She earned her B.A. degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and her J.D. degree from the University of Alabama School of Law. Ms. Frederick is a member of the Alabama and Birmingham Bar associations. She is a past-chair of the Alabama State Bar's Labor and Employment Section and has been a frequent speaker and contributing author on myriad employment topics. Ms. Frederick is admitted to practice before all state and federal district courts in Alabama and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Ms. Frederick has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® for her work in employment law, management in 2023-2024, and has also been recognized by Super Lawyers®.

N. DeWayne Pope
is of counsel in the Birmingham and Atlanta offices of Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani, LLP. He is a member of the commercial litigation and employment law practice groups at the firm. Mr. Pope has extensive experience representing corporate clients in state and federal court litigation, mediation and arbitration relating to business disputes and consumer claims. He also has extensive experience representing employers in a wide variety of employment litigation in both state and federal courts, as well as in administrative settings before the EEOC, NLRB and Department of Labor. In addition to his litigation practice, Mr. Pope counsels employers on best practices for employment law compliance and provides real-time solutions when issues arise in the workplace, specifically with regard to disability accommodation, leave issues, workplace investigations, wage and hour issues, discipline, termination and litigation avoidance. His counseling work also includes drafting of employment handbooks, policies and procedures, protecting company intellectual property, and management training. Mr. Pope earned his B.S and B.A. degrees from the University of South Alabama and his J.D. degree from Samford University Cumberland School of Law. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Alabama State Bar and The State Bar of Georgia.

Ashley Gillihan
is a partner at Alston & Bird LLP's Atlanta office and is a member of the firm's employee benefits and executive compensation, and ERISA litigation groups. He focuses his practice exclusively on health and welfare employee benefit compliance and litigation issues for employers, health plan administrators, and other health and welfare benefit plan service providers. Mr. Gillihan also has extensive experience assisting financial institutions and insurance companies who serve as health savings account trustees or custodians. He is a member of the Employer's Council on Flexible Compensation (ECFC) Technical Advisory Council and the board of editors for the Benefits and Compensation Law Alert, published by M. Lee Smith Publishers. Mr. Gillihan is also a faculty member for the Institute for Applied Management and Law (IAML), and is the former author of the Flexible Benefits Answer Book published by Aspen Publishers. He is a member of the Alabama Bar Association, Tennessee Bar Association, and the State Bar of Georgia. Mr. Gillihan earned his B.A. degree from Western Kentucky University and his J.D. degree from Samford University. He is admitted to practice law in Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee.

Tucker D. Crain
is an attorney at Littler Mendelson P.C., where he focuses on labor and employment law issues. Prior to joining Littler, he defended architectural firms and engineers in professional liability cases across a wide variety of settings. Mr. Crain also helped defend a municipality in a complex immunity case and worked closely with a number of insurance companies. He earned his B.S. degree from Arkansas State University and his J.D. degree from the University of Alabama School of Law. Mr. Crain is a member of the Alabama Bar Association; Labor and Employment Law Section, Young Lawyers Section, Birmingham Bar Association and American Bar Association. He is admitted to practice law in Alabama.
